Suddenly, the
Niger Delta Avengers, a militant group that has claimed responsibility for multiple
attacks on oil and gas installations across the Niger Delta, that crippled many activities, says it is ready
to engage the Nigerian government in dialogue. Why?
It will be recalled that the
Nigerian government had earlier indicated interest in negotiation with the
so-called Niger Delta Avengers in order to end hostilities in the region but
this truce was turned down by the barbaric group. This singular act, I considered
a slap in the face of the Federal government and I expected an application of
maximum force in the region to quell the activities of these hoodlums but
that's wasn't the case, perhaps, some unscrupulous government officials that
have oil wells in the region were protecting their personal interest and would
not allow the military to complete their job. Or are the military too weak
and/or incapacitated to complete this task and are admitting defeat?
If not, how can a small group of nonentities hold a country as large as Nigeria to ransom and compel the government to succumb to its selfish demands? A child does not request from the father by fighting and destroying before making demands. This is unheard of and those encouraging the government to negotiate with group is granting the group cheap popularity and promoting it's supremacy.
Should the Federal government go ahead to negotiate with this group, it would have done the stupidest thing since it's inception. It will also be counter-productive as other states and regions where Fulani herdsmen had continued with their carnage of destruction of lives and property.
Remember, the government has not listened to IPOB or treated them with such kids-gloves.
I want to believe that nobody possess the monopoly of violence, and let me say that the oil in the Niger Delta belongs to the Nigerian state.
